Pilates is a low impact series of exercises that focuses on improving flexibility, mobility, posture, balance and body awareness . It works by strengthening the trunk of the body/core that support spine and pelvis while moving limbs to their maximum range of movement.
Absolutely! Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and anyone can join as long as they haven’t been told to not do Pilates by a medical professional. Exercises can be modified to suit individual needs, while allowing progression and work towards their specific goals.
At the Pilates Groove we teach in line with the method of Body Control Pilates London. This method breaks down Joseph Pilates original mat repertoire into manageable exercises, helping clients move safely and effectively while building strength, mobility, flexibility and confidence to progress.
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Sports/activewear is mainly the best clothing so that alignment and movement can be observed well. Pilates is usually practiced in barefoot or grip socks.
Please bring a mat. If you choose to sign up for the blocks of classes, an email will be sent to you after the first lesson explaining what you will need going forwards. But equally there is always equipment available to use.
For best results we recommend attending 1-3 classes per week. This is not always convenient for people, so at least 20 minutes a few times per week at home practice on top of a lesson might be more realistic for some. Consistency is key and many clients notice improvements in their posture, mobility and strength within a month.
Pilates can help improve core strength, posture and movement patterns which helps reduce discomfort and support a healthier spine. If you have any existing medical condition or injury, please consult a healthcare professional before starting any exercise programme.
As long as medical clearance has been given then yes Pilates is great for pelvic health awareness, mobility, strength. posture and preparing the body for birth. We offer private lessons and as long as you have done Pilates before, can join a regular group class (modified version) after 16 weeks and up to 32 weeks, then from 33 weeks, one to one sessions are recommended.
Your first class will include an introduction to the key Pilates principles such as , alignment, breathing techniques, how to use your centre/ core, start positions and some exercises. You can work at your own pace with clear instruction. You will sign a waiver at the beginning of your first class for insurance purposes. At the end of the class you will be given an enrolment form to complete and bring back with you next time. This form is quite detailed but very important to inform us of your health and goals for insurance purposes and lesson planning.
Yes we offer one to one sessions that are tailored to your individual goals, fitness levels and any specific concerns you may have.

Please let us know before attending class and ensure you are allowed to exercise by a medical professional. Pilates exercises can be modified or another exercise given, but it is important to let your instructor know of any injuries, medical conditions or recent surgeries so that your session can be adapted safely.
Many clients report feeling stronger, more mobile and more energised within a few sessions. With regular practice you will notice improvements in your posture, balance, flexibility and overall wellbeing.
The Pilates Groove offers supportive, welcoming classes led by a fully qualified Body Control Pilates teacher (credentials can be checked on the Body Control Pilates website). Focussing on how to move correctly while keeping alignment and allowing questions if the need arises from clients.
We use hand weights, bands, balls and foam balance boards through different blocks of lessons. Ongoing Professional development is important as a Pilates instructor and I am always adding strings to my Pilates and movement bow through training, seminars, workshops, programmes and exams to ensure I can give as much help to my clients as I possibly can.
